If you missed our recent podcast, for our big question of the week we ranked the five best games for the Nintendo Switch. Now, as we note, we’re biased toward games you would come specifically to the Switch for. If our ranking upsets you, remember you should really just relax.
5. Ring Fit Adventure
A surprising choice to some, but Ring Fit Adventure was a runaway success on the Switch—particularly during covid lockdowns. It’s fun, accessible, and can genuinely work up a sweat.
4. Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Pokémon is one of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, but even diehards can admit by the launch of the Switch it was feeling a bit outdated. The Legends series has breathed new life and shown what the future of the franchise might be.
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is fantastic, but Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the benefit of feeling like both a new game and a greatest hits collection at the same time. It’s arguably the best the franchise has ever played (hi Melee fans!).
2. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
We only wanted to include one on such a short list, so feel free to substitute Tears of the Kingdom if you prefer it. However, there’s no denying Wild’s radical return to an open world adventure rekindled for many the spirit of the original.
1. Super Mario Odyssey
For us, there is no better game that is also more accessible. If you know someone getting a Switch for the first time, for most this is the game they should play first. It’s maybe Mario’s best 3D adventure, and definitely one of his five best. A modern triumph.
