The semester might slowly be breaking us, but we have enough energy for a new episode! We talk about the disappointment of Final Fantasy Origin, Netflix and Amazon in games, EA dropping brand names, the new Halo series, why Pizza Hut is missing a cowabunga opportunity, and who would we rather fight–Kirby or Jigglypuff? This week’s crew includes Alicia Utecht, Ryan Freels, O.J. Duncan, and Justin Young.

This special episode is taken from a discussion panel that was part of the 2022 Southern Illinois University Conference on Women. The panel was titled “She Got Game: Leveling Up Inclusivity in Video Games” and was moderated by Julie Hartung and included as panelists Dr. Cassandra Bausman, Alicia Utecht, Jodie Salazar, and Justin Young. While women make up a significant portion of the video game audience, it has traditionally been a hostile environment for many both to play games and work within the industry. This discussion panel talks with women both about how other players can be more welcoming, but…
Justin takes a look at Nippon Marathon, a runner that takes a little from others in the genre, but also a whole lot from Takeshi’s Castle.
We’ve been speaking at conferences about video games and horror movies, but this week the horror is sadly in the news. We talk about the reported toxic environment at Moon Studios, coming to grips with Harry Potter as a gaming property with a less than ideal creator, the Gayming Awards, Elden Ring, Pokemon Legends, and Waluigi’s dark but far more interesting film we’d like to see. This week’s crew includes Alicia Utecht, Ryan Freels, O.J. Duncan, and Justin Young.
Justin checks out Vampire Survivors, a rougelite you play with only your joystick and no buttons, and also borrows liberally from the Castlevania franchise.
We’re back from spring break and talking about Sony’s latest State of Play, childhood Ninja Turtle trauma, our favorite Pokémon, an absolute glut of video game TV shows, Final Fantasy masochism, retro Quake, and our collective love for Kirby’s new adventure. This week’s crew includes Alicia Utecht, Ryan Freels, O.J. Duncan, and Justin Young.
In the premiere episode of the new Saluki Gamescast podcast we chat about the big news so far in 2022, including Microsoft buying Activision, Nintendo’s big Direct showing, the Steam Deck in the wild, PlayStation Spartacus, Pokemon generation 9, a Twisted Metal series, Street Fighter 6, our favorite Super Marios, and more! This week’s crew includes Alicia Utecht, Ryan Freels, O.J. Duncan, and Justin Young.
The second year of the COVID pandemic brought many delays, but it also brought a solid collection of games. The Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 finally came into their own with solid titles that felt “next gen.” It was a good year for games. That’s pretty much every year these days, and that says a lot for the health of the industry. Honorable Mentions Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Fights in Tight Spaces Overboard! Resident Evil: Village Wildermyth 10. Forza Horizon 5 (XONE/X, PC) The mainline Forza series has never done much for me. I’m not a…
2019 marked the final year for Playstation 4 and Xbox One as the dominant consoles. For one, the Nintendo Switch sold more consoles and released more games. Second, both brands will see new consoles before the end of 2020. That didn’t mean it was a bad year for games, however. If anything, the game landscape has grown more diverse with a wider variety of original titles for niche audiences. While I don’t play everything, below are my ten favorites of what I did play. But first, some honorable mentions: The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, Ape Out, Cadence of…
Every year I like to showcase some of my favorite games from the past year. 2018 has been a remarkable year for games in not just quality, but variety. My top ten are below, but real quick some honorable mention callouts for Dragon Ball FighterZ, Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, Onrush, House Flipper, Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu!, The Messenger, Minit, and Two Point Hospital. That’s a whole lot of gaming to keep you busy. 10. Florence (Mobile) Last year I was surprised by including visual novels in my top ten, and here I’m again surprised…
